Native app
A native app is a mobile app built separately for each platform in its own language and tools: Swift for iOS and Kotlin for Android. It has full access to the phone's features and usually the best performance.
Because each platform has its own code, a native app feels at home on the phone: it follows the platform's conventions, starts quickly and works smoothly with the camera, Bluetooth, notifications or payments.
The trade-off is cost. Two codebases mean more work on development and maintenance than a cross-platform app, so native development pays off mainly where performance or deep hardware integration matters.
What it means for your business
Go native when the app relies on hardware or has to be as fast as possible. For many business apps, a cross-platform app is cheaper and good enough.
