AI agent
An AI agent is a program built on a large language model that is given a goal rather than a single question. It plans the steps, uses tools such as search, databases or other apps, and checks the results until the task is done.
Unlike a chatbot, which answers and waits, an agent acts: it can look up an order, update a record in the CRM or put together a report from several sources. What it may do depends on the tools and permissions it gets.
An agent is only as reliable as its guardrails. In production it needs clear limits, a log of what it did and a person who approves risky steps. More in our article AI agent: what it is and how a company can use it.
